The Mad Devil
This is a long period of time from 1997 to 2006 give or take when I lived in Greensboro, moved to Cary, then moved to Raleigh. Will P was my roommate for some of this and he was painting during some of this time, which made me paint more. This is also the window where I learned about more brands of paints and moved from Ral Partha more to Reaper minis....with a dash of a few other companies courtesy of Will P. We picked up the 1995 Necromunda when we were in Cary (I think). It was also the height of Living Greyhawk and my involvement with the gaming community at large. Conventions....dragoncon, Trinoc*con, Mace, ConCarolinas, a variety of VA cons to go play Geoff modules...and I did some commissions for some of my fellow gamrs. I miss Living Greyhawk. The changes to the RPGA in 4E kind of squashed that chapter...I did run a few rounds of 5E for the successor to the RPGA at dragoncon one year, but it was not the same. Likewise, living pathfinder (Pathfinder Society? It has a name, but I am too lazy to look it up at the moment) has never quite caught me up like Living Greyhawk did. I suppose as I transition into a new situation, I may try to reconnect with some of those folks, but I expect that I will not in the near future.
One of Ral Partha three stage miniatures. I managed to have two of stage 1 for some reason. I think this is the druid.
Ral Partha Basilisk. 11-439. Sculptor Chris Atkin. Oddly long base. Maybe a greater basilisk? Not a particularly exciting sculpt or paint job. Basilisks in general were not exciting in the early editions. The DF basilisk is much more colorful. TSR licensed sculpt.
Reaper Cockatrices. 02631. Sculptor Sandra Garrity. They have seen table use because cockatrices get used in lots of modules.
Ral Partha also had M/F combos. So this is the Adventuring Wizard M/F combo. The hair on the female half. Oof. Lots of shampoo.
Ral Partha TSR licensed Beholder. Old school with the eyes all on top instead of the newer more front facing set we see in the later editions. Glueing all those eyestalks was a pain.
Ral Partha? Cyclops. Base definitely looks like a Ral Partha base. Painted as a just in case miniature, and its use has been about that as well.
Reaper Baalbek. I have always liked this sculpt. Chose it for my business cards back when I was more actively soliciting commissions. He was one of the first minis I know about with the chain, which meant that he had some use when the spiked chain was so popular.
Ral Partha Brass Bull. 02-410. Sculptor Bob Charrette. So monochromatic, but I think I got the shadows on the scales good enough. Currently available from Ral Partha Legacy
Ral Partha I think it was labeled a chimera, but it is just a weird sculpt.
I was (am?) fascinated with Night Below. It is an amazing sandbox into linear super module. I did it as a player after law school until we got TPK'd when Reed misread the Grell entries. I have tried to run it twice and just love it. But it is really long and my players have never been able to hold it together long enough to get to the Undersea. Alas. Anyway, here are minis that I painted because of that module.
Reed tried to run Dragon Mountain Box Set for us in this time frame. Ral Partha had a box set of minis that were for that module. This sort of feels like a precursor to what Wizkids did with the Pathfinder Adventure Path specific sets that they released. Obviously with prepainted plastic you can do a wider selection of the monsters. Like most of the Ral Partha boxes it was 8-10 minis.
For a good long while I did commissions. Mostly for people with whom I gamed or knew from conventions. Here are a smattering of the ones I remember.
Reaper but I can't find SKU. The robes are very similar to some other Reapers. Painted for Joey B. Probably somewhere in the 2000-2003 range
Reaper Norrin Silverbeard 02503. Also painted for Joey B. Same time period.
Really bad pictures of a wizard for David C. Given that I have not seen him for years, I am unlikely to be able to get a new picture, so meh.
Reaper Drake Whiteraven 02343. Same time period.
This was for Lyman G. It was his LG barbarian named Bolder. In my memory he died a lot. The last pic is a slightly better angle of the free hand on the shoulder.
